A guide to finding support

Does your organisation need support with one or more areas of your work? Or help to lift your services to another level? Or guidance on generating more income, carrying out a campaign, or on communicating your needs or achievements?

There are many different kinds of support – and providers – available to you, but finding the right ones for your needs can sometimes seem daunting. Here are some of the places where you can start locating support:

  • The National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) provides resources on its website, including a directory of umbrella bodies and resource agencies, an order facility for the latest Civil Society Almanac, signposts to projects and resources, and access to a help desk.
  • The National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) is the national voice of third sector support providers. Its site provides latest news on services, learning opportunities, resources, publications and other kinds of support, including an online director of trainers and consultants.
  • Volunteering England is an independent agency committed to supporting, enabling and celebrating volunteering in all its diversity. Its site provides information on projects and initiatives, policy innovation, and guidance for people wanting to volunteer.
  • Media Trust brings together the media industry and charities, providing mentoring and other help to build effective communication within the sector and from the sector to its key audiences. Its site carries signposts to training and events and other resources and information relating to marketing and communications.
  • bassac is a membership organisation representing and supporting a national network of multi-purpose organisations that act as community actors. Its site provides full information on its events, programmes, policy work and publications.
