Welcome to the performance management workstream

We seek to increase and improve the performance management support available to third sector organisations. By becoming more effective, efficient and sustainable, these organisations will be able to increase markedly the significance of their contribution to people’s lives.

Our aims

We aim to:

  • help support providers give better skilled performance management guidance to frontline organisations
  • help third sector organisations better manage and improve their own performance
  • improve the evidence base so that a strong case is made for performance management.

What problems do we want to solve?

This is a crucial time for the third sector. It enjoys a high level of public trust and is encouraged by all major political parties to play an important role in strengthening communities and improving public services. The sector has the potential to achieve even more for its users in the coming years, but to do so successfully it will need to ensure that it can maintain its independence, demonstrate the value of its work, and be properly accountable to those who support its activities.

The key challenges facing the sector include: growing expectations for organisational accountability; using performance management to learn and improve; responding successfully to an increasingly complex funding environment; and finding sufficient resources to address organisational performance.
